Internet Consultancy London
You may or may not have a website yet, that you are happy with.
If you do not yet have a really first class website, you are really missing out a lot of potential sales. Even if all your business is done face to face, a lot of your potential customers would be looking for your service online. And also they will be trying to find your website to find out more about your company.
If your competitor has a better website that is ranked better in Google, and is more beautiful, or is more functional, then they could well go to him instead, even though you provide better and cheaper goods and services.
Another thing that is really important is targeting the right keywords for use in your site. If you are an accountant, and you live in Hertford, if you attempt to optimize your site for the word "accountant", your site has to beat 32 million other sites. Try it now. Go to www.google.co.uk and type in the word accountant, and you will see that it says near the top "Results 1 - 10 of about 32,500,000 for accountant".
If you do the same thing for the keyphrase "Hertford accountant" it says there are 56,000 other sites, which is considerably easier. Not only that, they are targeted surfers all looking for an accountant in Hertford, which is exactly what you are.
If you could get to number one for this phrase, you would get a lot of new customers from the site.
You may not think it matters, and I didn't either, but believe me it does.
Just for example, suppose you are an accountant living in Hertford. You should be targeting keywords like "Hertford accountant", as there are relatively few other website owners targeting those keywords, so it is easier to get high in Google. Also, anyone searching for that exact phrase is a potential customer ready to phone you.
There are 3 reasons why you should chose a domain name like www.hertfordaccountant.co.uk
- When a surfer searches Google for the phrase "hertford
accountant", he is much more likely to click on a listing www.hertfordaccountant.co.uk rather
than www.fredbloggs.co.uk .
I am guessing the reason is that those two words are imprinted in
his subconscious.
This is more than just a theory, I have found out to my cost in my stats. I had a Google adwords campaign, where my ad was exactly the same instead of the domain name.
A domain without the keywords in got 0.29% clicked on, and one with the keywords in got 0.62% . And since then, I have seen this same phenomenon repeated again and again. In other words they are twice as likely to click on it, and you will end up with twice as many leads if you do this.
- If anyone links to your site using just your domain name, the anchor text will automatically include your keywords, so everytime someone links to www.hertfordaccountant.co.uk it would improve that site for the keywords "hertford accountant", and everytime someone links to www.fredbloggs.co.uk this would improve that site for the keywords "Fred Bloggs". And your customers will be searching for "Hertford accountant", and not "Fred Bloggs".
- As part of their algorhythm, Google favours sites with the keyword in the domain name, as they consider it more relevant, so you would get a search engine boost just for that alone.
So, that is why as part of my own SEO business. Every single keyword that I target, I create a separate domain with the keywords in the title.
